| ASKO is proud to be a co-sponsor to select teams in the 2007 Solar Decathlon, a design contest for solar-powered homes. The Solar Decathlon challenges teams of college students to build an attractive, functional home that is fully powered by the sun. This competition will showcase the potential of solar power to contribute to our energy supply, but it will also focus on energy conservation and creative design.
ASKO is contributing to the Solar Decathlon by donating appliances to select teams. Because the cost of a solar home depends on how much power it needs, these homes must be extremely energy efficient. Several teams approached ASKO because our appliances are known for being some of the most energy efficient around.
As a conservation leader, ASKO is delighted to have this chance to show its commitment to making the most of America's natural resources.
The teams transported their solar houses to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., where they will form a solar village. The village and solar houses will be open to the public for self-guided tours from Oct. 12-20. The team houses will be closed to the public on October 17 for competition purposes. The teams compete in 10 contests to determine an overall winner, which will be announced at 2 p.m. on October 19. See the competition schedule for detailed information.
