As you prepare to buy an ASKO dishwasher
or laundry appliance, there's one more thing for you to think
about: what to do with your old appliance. If it is in good
working condition, you can donate it to a charity. If it's
time for your appliance to be retired, please recycle it.
If it's an ASKO you're replacing, keep in mind that the entire
appliance can be recycled, and all parts are labeled to make
the process easier. Here at ASKO, we're concerned about the
effect our appliances have on the environment - from beginning
to end.
Appliance Donation
Some national and local charities, especially those that
run thrift stores, accept used appliances. You can look for
a charity in the phone book under "Thrift Stores" or "Charities." Be
sure to contact the organization to make sure it can take
appliances.
Some groups offer curbside pick up. Even if you plan to
drop off the appliance yourself, please contact the organization
ahead of time. There may be a designated drop-off time or
location. Please do not abandon appliances on an organization's
doorstep. It doesn't do them any good to discover a dishwasher
that's been sitting outside in the rain!
Keep in mind that all donated appliances should be in good
working condition and accompanied by the owner's manual if
possible.
If you cannot donate your old appliance, please recycle
it. Most appliances are made mainly of steel, which is easy
to reuse.
Appliance Recycling
Many landfills that accept appliances send them out to be
recycled. Check with your local landfill to see whether it
recycles appliances. If not, you can look for local recycling
companies in the phone book under "Recycling" and "Scrap
Metal."
Some will pick up the appliance at your home. Please do
not take your appliance to a company without first contacting
the company. Not all recycling companies will be able to
take appliances, and those that do may have designated drop-off
times or locations.
Some will charge you to pick up your appliance, and some
will pay you for the scrap metal, so it is a good idea to
call several places to see what your options are. |
